Malaysia’s September Inflation Eases Slightly to 1.8% YoY

Malaysia’s consumer price inflation edged down in September 2026, with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rising 1.8% year-over-year, compared with a 1.9% gain in August 2026. The latest data, updated on 19 October 2026, indicate a marginal easing in price pressures as measured on an annual basis.

Both the current and previous readings reflect year-over-year comparisons, with the September figure gauging price changes against September a year earlier, and the August figure measured against the same month in the prior year. The slight deceleration suggests that, while inflation remains present in the Malaysian economy, upward pressure on consumer prices moderated modestly heading into the final quarter of 2026. Investors and policymakers will be watching upcoming releases to see whether this softer trend in CPI becomes more firmly established.
