Speculators increased their bearish bets on the Australian dollar in the latest reporting period, according to fresh figures on AUD speculative net positions released on 30 October 2026.

Data from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) show that net speculative positions in the Australian dollar slipped further into negative territory, moving from -127.3K contracts previously to -128.3K. The change reflects a marginal intensification of net short positioning, indicating that traders, on balance, remain positioned against the currency.

While the shift is modest, the persistence of sizeable net shorts underscores ongoing caution toward the AUD in futures markets, with investors maintaining a broadly pessimistic stance rather than meaningfully scaling back bearish exposure.
