Netherlands Inflation Hits 18-Month High

The annual inflation rate in the Netherlands rose to 3.7% in October 2026, up from 3.4% in September, according to preliminary estimates. This was the highest level since April 2025 and was driven in part by faster energy inflation. Motor fuels, in particular, saw prices climb 14.4% year-on-year, compared with 13.8% in September, reflecting surging global energy prices. Inflation for industrial goods excluding energy and motor fuels also picked up, rising to 1.9% from 1.5%.

By contrast, services inflation was unchanged at 3.9%. Prices for food, beverages, and tobacco declined 0.6% compared with a year earlier, following a 1.2% year-on-year drop in September.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices are projected to rise by 0.7% in October, after a 0.1% increase in September. The index for consumption abroad accelerated to 8.6%, from 7.7% in the previous month. HICP-based annual inflation also edged higher, reaching 3.3% in October, compared with 3.0% in September.
