Germany’s construction sector deteriorated further in October, as the HCOB Germany Construction Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) fell to 41.6, down from 43.5 in September 2026. The latest reading, released on 5 November 2026, signals a faster contraction in activity across the industry.
With the PMI remaining well below the 50-point threshold that separates expansion from contraction, the October decline underscores sustained weakness in German construction. The drop from September’s already subdued level suggests ongoing pressure on the sector, likely reflecting subdued demand and cautious investment sentiment.
The fresh data will heighten concerns about the broader economic outlook, as construction is a key component of domestic activity. Investors and policymakers will be watching upcoming months’ releases closely to gauge whether the downturn is stabilising or at risk of deepening further.
