The average rate on a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage in the United States declined to 7.18% as of November 5, 2026, down from 7.24% a week earlier. “Mortgage rates continued their downward trajectory this week, improving the environment for prospective homebuyers against a backdrop of strong economic growth,” said Sam Khater, Freddie Mac’s chief economist. One year earlier, the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 6.22%. The average rate on a 15-year fixed-rate mortgage also decreased from last week’s 6.60%, though the latest figure has not been released.
