US 30-Year Mortgage Rate Eases from 2-Month Peak

On April 24th, the average rate for a 30-year fixed mortgage, as reported by Freddie Mac, declined to 6.81%, a slight drop from the previous week's rate of 6.83%, which had reached a two-month peak. "This week's slight decrease in the average mortgage rate reflects continued stability, as over the past few months, the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage has varied by less than 20 basis points. This steadiness is beneficial for both buyers and sellers," commented Sam Khater, Chief Economist at Freddie Mac.
