Macau CPI Edges Higher in March

Consumer prices in Macau experienced a slight increase of 0.04% year-on-year in March 2025, recovering from a 0.16% drop observed in February. The primary contributor to this rise was the miscellaneous goods and services index, encompassing items such as personal care products, insurance, jewelry, clocks, and watches, which increased by 1.99%, following a notable 2.05% growth in the prior month. Additional inflationary pressures were observed in prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (1.38%), education (1.16%), health (1%), food and non-alcoholic beverages (0.48%), and housing and fuels (0.32%). Conversely, substantial decreases were seen in the areas of information and communication, falling by 2.92% compared to a 2.83% decline previously; transport, which dropped 2.77% against a previous 4.00% decline; and clothing and footwear, down by 2.62% compared to a 1.98% decrease earlier. On a monthly basis, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) decreased by 0.08%, following a 0.19% reduction in February.
