Lithuania’s Trade Deficit Narrows in January, Signaling Firmer External Position

Lithuania’s trade balance improved at the start of 2026, with the deficit narrowing to -0.33 billion euros in January 2026 from -0.51 billion euros in December 2025. The latest data, updated on 10 March 2026, point to a reduction in the external gap as the country enters the new year.

While the trade balance remains in negative territory, the smaller shortfall suggests either firmer export performance, a moderation in imports, or a combination of both. For policymakers and markets, the shift indicates some easing of external pressures compared with the end of 2025, and will likely feed into assessments of Lithuania’s overall economic resilience in early 2026.
