Sensex Rises on US-Iran Deal Hopes

India’s BSE Sensex opened about 1.1% higher at 76,252 on Monday, extending gains from the previous session and tracking advances across Asian markets. Sentiment was supported by optimism over a potential US–Iran peace agreement, which eased worries about disruptions to global energy supplies. Risk appetite improved following reports that Washington and Tehran had largely agreed on a memorandum aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

In corporate news, FTSE announced that Tata Capital, Lenskart Solutions, LG Electronics India, Meesho, ICICI Prudential Asset Management, and Groww will be added to its FTSE All-World and FTSE All-Cap indexes, effective June 22.

On the benchmark, notable gainers included HFCL (+8.8%), Apollo (+5.8%), Eicher Motors (+5.3%), Sun Pharma (+5.5%), and InterGlobe (+2%).

On the downside, Hindalco fell 2.1% after reporting an unexpected drop in quarterly profit, attributed to higher costs stemming from disruptions at its US subsidiary Novelis. Other laggards included MTAR (-2.1%), HBL (-2.2%), and Info Edge (-4.2%).
