Taiwan Stocks Break 43,000 Level

The TAIEX, Taiwan’s benchmark stock index, climbed 1,209 points, or 2.9%, to 43,477 around midday on Monday, marking its third consecutive gain and mirroring advances in U.S. futures amid optimism over U.S.–Iran end-of-war negotiations. The index crossed the 43,000 mark for the first time, driven primarily by strength in electronic technology shares, which jumped 3.5%. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), which represents more than 40% of the market’s total capitalization, added 1.8%, while MediaTek surged 10.0% and Delta Electronics advanced 8.8%. Technology services stocks also rose, adding 1.8%, with Co-Tech Development Corp climbing 4.8%. Investors were also looking ahead to April industrial production figures, following a sharp increase in March, as well as April retail sales data.
