US Core PPI (Ex-Food, Energy, Transport) Accelerates to 5.1% in May YoY

The U.S. Producer Price Index excluding food, energy and transport rose 5.1% year-over-year in May 2026, up from 4.4% in April, according to data updated on 11 June 2026. The indicator, which strips out more volatile components, highlights underlying producer-level inflation pressures in the economy.

On a year-over-year basis, the May reading indicates a notable acceleration in core producer prices compared with the same month a year earlier, and marks a pickup from April’s pace. The previous figure of 4.4% for April 2026 was itself measured against April 2025, while the latest 5.1% reading reflects the change between May 2026 and May 2025.

The move higher in this core PPI measure may draw attention from market participants and policymakers who closely watch producer costs as a potential signal for future consumer price trends. Since the series excludes food, energy and transport, it is often viewed as a gauge of more persistent, underlying inflation dynamics within the U.S. production sector.
