Baltic Dry Index Falls for 10th Day

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which tracks charter rates for vessels transporting dry bulk commodities, fell for the tenth consecutive session on Thursday, declining about 1.5% to 2,729 points, its lowest level since May 1. The capesize index, reflecting rates for ships that typically carry 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, dropped 3.7% to 4,140 points. In contrast, the panamax index, which measures rates for vessels hauling around 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose 1.8% to 2,251 points, while the supramax index increased 0.9% to 1,633 points.
