FX.co ★ Speculators Trim Bearish Bets on Loonie as CAD Net Shorts Narrow Sharply

Speculative positioning in the Canadian dollar turned less negative in the latest reporting period, with net short contracts narrowing notably. According to the latest Commitments of Traders data, released on 11 September 2026, CFTC CAD speculative net positions improved to -70.5K from a previous level of -108.1K.

The shift indicates that traders remain net short on the Canadian dollar, but to a considerably lesser extent than before, suggesting some easing in bearish sentiment toward the currency. While positioning is still in negative territory, the reduction in net shorts may reflect a reassessment of the outlook for Canada’s currency amid changing global and domestic market conditions.
