analysts predict that Fed's Warsh will have to do a challenging balancing act at the symposium. During Wednesday's European trading session, the price of gold (XAU/USD) dropped 0.75% to around $4,620. In anticipation of the US Personal Consumption Expenditure Price Index (PCE) data for July at 12:30 GMT and Federal Reserve (Fed) Chairman Kevin Warsh's remarks at the Jackson Hole Symposium, investors are becoming cautious, and the precious metal corrects as the rally pauses after setting a new three-month high at $4,697 the day before. Federal Reserve (Fed) officials constantly monitor US core PCE inflation, which is predicted to have stayed stable at 3.3% year-over-year (YoY), with monthly statistics growing at a rate of 0.2%, quicker than the June reading of 0.1%. In order to obtain new information on the Federal Reserve's (Fed) monetary policy outlook, investors will closely monitor the US PCE inflation statistics. Following the announcement of the poor nonfarm payrolls (NFP) data for July, the Fed's interest rate rise forecasts dramatically decreased this month. However, indications that US inflationary pressures would stay stable might further reduce such expectations. Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh's impending Jackson Hole lecture on Friday, August 28, is hailed by DBS strategists as "the most important event this week," although they emphasize that the event is "viewed more as a credibility event rather than a rate-signaling one." While US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's move to increase long-bond buybacks "seeks to calm markets," they observe that "the past two days’ decline in the 30Y yield offers only a reprieve, not a resolution." In light of this, DBS contends that "Warsh faces a difficult balancing act: defending the Fed's independence and price-stability mandate while providing greater clarity on the Fed's reaction function without abandoning his preference for less forward guidance."
