CrowdStrike: Strong Earnings, But the Chart Is Getting Extended

CrowdStrike (NASDAQ: CRWD) has entered September with a very different setup from the one investors were watching just weeks ago. The stock closed at $218.40 after reaching an intraday high of $228.69. The move follows an explosive post-earnings rally, but the latest pullback raises an important technical question: does CRWD have enough momentum to push through the current resistance zone, or does the stock need a deeper correction first? The technical structure remains constructive, but price is now approaching the upper portion of its long-term rising structure. - Market Overview CrowdStrike's recent rally was driven primarily by an exceptionally strong fiscal Q2 FY2027 report. On August 26, the company reported $1.47 billion in quarterly revenue, up 26% year over year, while annual recurring revenue reached $5.84 billion, up 25%. More importantly for the market, net new ARR reached a record $332.8 million, accelerating 51% year over year. The company also raised its FY27 net-new ARR growth outlook to 34% at the midpoint, a 630-basis-point increase. Full-year revenue guidance was raised to approximately $5.99–$6.01 billion. The market initially responded aggressively: CRWD jumped roughly 20.5% to $227.96 following the results. The subsequent decline toward $218 does not appear to reflect a deterioration in the company's reported fundamentals. Rather, the stock is digesting an exceptionally strong earnings-driven move while broader markets are dealing with higher-rate and geopolitical concerns. - What's Driving the Market? The primary catalyst is accelerating cybersecurity demand associated with AI. CrowdStrike's latest results suggest that AI is currently acting more as a cybersecurity demand driver than a threat to the company's business model. The company reported record net new ARR and said its Falcon Flex business had surpassed $2.29 billion in ending ARR, growing 101% year over year. This has also changed the tone among analysts. Following the results, Argus raised its CRWD price target from $230 to $425, while maintaining a Buy rating. Jefferies also raised its target to $230 from $190 before earnings, and other analysts subsequently moved targets higher following the report. The fundamental picture is therefore strong. But that does not mean the stock cannot correct. After the earnings surge, CRWD is trading at a very demanding valuation, meaning future price appreciation increasingly depends on the company continuing to deliver accelerating growth. Recent commentary has specifically highlighted valuation as a key risk following the rally. - Technical Analysis The daily chart shows CrowdStrike trading inside a broad rising structure that has been developing since the major $85.49 low. The larger Elliott Wave count remains bullish, with the current advance positioned within a higher-degree Wave V structure. The recent move has pushed CRWD toward the upper portion of the channel and into the final stages of the current wave sequence. The chart identifies: $228.42 as the immediate level price is testing. Above that, the next marked level is: $234.48 The larger projected target is: $262.00 From the current $218.40, the chart represents approximately: $234.48: +7.47% $262.00: +20.08% However, the chart also explicitly allows for a different path. After a possible continuation higher, the projected structure shows a substantial corrective move before another attempt toward the higher target. The shaded region around the $190–$205 area is therefore important as a potential retracement zone. The chart does not provide a separate hard invalidation price for the current higher-degree structure, so no additional invalidation level is being introduced here. Bullish Scenario A sustained move through $228.42 would strengthen the continuation structure. The next marked objective is $234.48, followed by the larger $262.00 target. The fundamental backdrop supports this scenario: record net new ARR, raised FY27 guidance and accelerating demand for cybersecurity in an AI-heavy environment. However, the chart also suggests that reaching $262 does not necessarily have to happen in a straight line. A continuation higher followed by a significant retracement remains one of the projected paths. Bearish Scenario The main risk is not necessarily a collapse in fundamentals. It is technical exhaustion after an unusually powerful earnings-driven rally. A failure to hold the current breakout structure could lead to a deeper retracement toward the highlighted $190–$205 region. That would represent a meaningful correction from current prices but would still sit considerably above the $85.49 structural low. The key point is that a correction would not automatically invalidate the broader bullish structure shown on the chart. - Kap Waves Outlook CrowdStrike's fundamentals have materially strengthened. The company delivered record net new ARR, raised its full-year outlook and continues to benefit from the growing cybersecurity requirements created by AI adoption. A sustained move through that zone would keep $262.00 in focus. But the chart also projects the possibility of a sizeable correction after another advance.
