Hyundai Motor, Kia Unveil DAL-e Delivery Robot

Hyundai Motor Co. and its sibling Kia Corp., both eminent car makers from South Korea, have recently unveiled a new design for their DAL-e Delivery robot. They aim to transform the indoor autonomous delivery service industry with this innovation.

The new and improved DAL-e Delivery Robot builds upon its precursor, which was launched initially in December 2022. It incorporates superior technologies like autonomous navigation and facial recognition.

The robot is designed to enhance the efficiency of delivery, especially in complex environments such as offices and shopping centers. It boasts facial recognition technology shaped at Hyundai Motor's Robotics Lab and authenticated by the Korea Internet and Security Agency.

The design of the robot is rooted in Plug & Drive or PnD modules. These modules are a unique amalgamation of motor systems, steering mechanisms, suspension controls, braking systems, and sensors to detect the environment. Consequently, they allow for better performance in complicated settings such as corporate offices and malls.

The DAL-e Delivery robot can reach speeds up to 1.2 m/s and navigate skilfully around hindrances and through confined spaces. Its enhanced suspension system facilitates smooth transportation. The robot's cargo capacity has also been suitably increased to accommodate up to 16 coffee cups or items weighing up to 10 kg.

Soon to be launched at IGIS Asset Management's 'Factorial Seongsu' during the second quarter, the robot's primary use would be to streamline efficient food & beverage and parcel delivery services.

Dong Jin Hyun, Vice President and Head of the Robotics Lab at Hyundai Motor and Kia, shared that the DAL-e Delivery Robot is designed to offer reliable and efficient dispatch services for food and packages, thus ensuring prompt delivery for customers. Their broader vision is to foster the integration of infrastructure across a variety of settings including, offices, eateries, and shopping centers.
