Elbit Systems Ltd. (ESLT), a prominent Israeli defense contractor, announced on Monday that it has secured a contract valued at approximately $190 million to provide the Israeli Ministry of Defense with its advanced Iron Sting laser and GPS-guided mortar munition. This contract is set to be fulfilled over a period of two years.
The Iron Sting is a state-of-the-art precision-guided mortar munition, deployed from a 120mm mortar, with an effective range of up to 10 kilometers. It is engineered to accurately target and neutralize objectives, using robust GPS and laser guidance technologies.
Key features of the Iron Sting include a multi-mode fuze offering Point Detonation (PD), Point Detonation Delay (PDD), and Proximity Sensor (PRX) operating modes. The munition boasts a loading time of roughly 15 seconds.
Yehuda (Udi) Vered, General Manager of Elbit Systems Land, stated, "With the increasing prevalence of military conflicts in urban areas, armed forces globally require precise technologies that minimize collateral damage. Elbit Systems' Iron Sting addresses this vital requirement."
