In September 2025, Hungary experienced a 3% increase in retail sales compared to the same month the previous year, improving from a 2.4% rise noted in August. This represented the most robust retail growth since June, significantly driven by increased sales in food, beverages, and tobacco, which climbed by 3.1% up from 2.3% in August. Conversely, growth in non-food product sales slowed to 3.5% from August's 4.9%. This decline can be attributed to decreased sales in sectors such as books, computer equipment, other specialized stores, second-hand goods, as well as textiles, clothing, and footwear. Additionally, sales growth for automotive fuel decelerated to 0.6% from 2.2%. On a seasonally adjusted month-over-month basis, retail activity remained stable in September, following a 0.8% increase in the previous period.
