The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk index, an indicator of shipping rates for vessels carrying dry commodities, experienced a decline on Thursday after a four-day rise. It fell by 2.3%, reaching 1,761 points due to decreased demand for larger vessels. The capesize index, which generally deals with the shipment of 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, decreased by 5.2% to 2,589 points after climbing for four days. In contrast, the panamax index, which typically transports 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, saw a slight increase of 0.5%, bringing it to 1,614 points. Additionally, the supramax index rose by 23 points, achieving its highest level since January 5, at 1,019 points.
