UK Car Production Rises 17.7% in December

UK car production experienced a notable increase of 17.7% year-on-year in December 2025, reaching 53,003 units. This marks the end of a four-month decline caused by a cyber incident earlier in the year which had impacted production. Despite the boost in December, overall vehicle production for 2025 decreased by 15.5%, totaling 764,715 units. This decline was attributed to the earlier cyber disruption, new trade tariffs with transatlantic partners, consolidation of plants within the commercial vehicle sector, and the ongoing industry transition towards decarbonization.

Throughout 2025, production intended for the UK market decreased by 8.2%, resulting in 161,545 units, while exports saw a 7.9% drop to 555,826 units, which represented 77.5% of the total output. Europe continued to be the primary export destination with 56.7% of exports, followed by the United States at 15.0%, and China at 6.3%. Meanwhile, the production of battery electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, and hybrid vehicles increased by 8.3% to 298,813 units, bringing electrified models to a historical high of 41.7% of the total production output.
