CAC 40 Closes Week at Historic High

The CAC 40 jumped 1.4% to a record high of 8,516 on Friday, wrapping up its strongest week since early January after the US Supreme Court struck down President Trump’s global tariffs. The 6–3 decision, which ruled that using emergency powers to bypass Congress was unconstitutional, triggered a powerful relief rally in trade-sensitive luxury stocks, with LVMH advancing 4.4% and Hermès gaining 3.6%.

Industrial names also benefited from the ruling, as Airbus rose 1.4% and Saint-Gobain added 3.1%. On the earnings front, Air Liquide surged 4.6% after reporting a 6.4% increase in 2025 net profit and lifting its margin targets through 2027. This wave of corporate optimism helped investors shrug off mixed macroeconomic signals, including a February composite PMI reading of 49.9, pointing to near-stagnation in the private sector.

Energy heavyweight TotalEnergies slipped 1.5% as oil prices retreated, but the broader market strength supported financials, with Societe Generale and BNP Paribas each rising by around 1%. For the week, the CAC 40 gained roughly 1.3%.
