Croatia’s retail sales growth slowed to 3% year-on-year in January 2026, down from a six-month high of 4.8% in December 2025. Growth moderated in non-food products (5.4% vs 5.6% in December), while sales of automotive fuels and lubricants dropped sharply (-5.7% vs a 9.4% increase previously). In contrast, sales of food, beverages, and tobacco accelerated (6.1% vs 4%), as did overall trade excluding automotive fuels and lubricants (5.6% vs 4.9%). Activity in online and mail-order trade also rebounded (7.8% vs -0.8% in December). On a monthly basis, retail sales rose 1.2% in January, following a 1.7% increase in the prior month.
