Belgium’s consumer confidence indicator fell to -6 in March 2026 from 1 in February, reaching its lowest level since May of the previous year. The decline was largely driven by a sharp deterioration in expectations for the country’s economic situation, with that sub-index dropping to -45 from -25, its weakest reading since 2022. At the same time, fears of rising unemployment increased markedly: the corresponding indicator climbed to -3 from -11, pointing to growing anxiety about job security. On the household level, sentiment toward personal financial conditions turned slightly more negative, with the index edging down to -3 from -2. By contrast, expectations for saving capacity remained stable at 22, suggesting that, despite mounting economic uncertainty, households do not currently foresee a change in their ability to save.
