El Salvador Trade Deficit Widens in Februray

El Salvador’s trade deficit widened to USD 836.38 million in February 2026, up from USD 765.89 million in the same month a year earlier. Imports increased by 4.71% to USD 1.36 billion, despite a 17.92% decline in maquila goods. Purchases from countries outside Central America rose by 5.10%, while imports from within the region grew by 6.70%. Meanwhile, exports fell by 1.77% to USD 521.4 million, as shipments of traditional goods plunged 48.91%, partly offset by a 4.18% increase in non-traditional exports. Sales to markets outside Central America climbed 10.66%, whereas exports to Central American countries edged down 0.02%.
