The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which tracks shipping rates for vessels transporting dry bulk commodities, rose for a sixth consecutive session on Friday, gaining 1.9% to reach 2,201 points—its highest level since March 4. The capesize index, covering ships that typically carry 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, also advanced for the sixth straight day, adding 2.6% to 3,318 points. The panamax index, which measures rates for vessels that usually transport 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, increased 0.7% to 1,855 points. Among the smaller segments, the supramax index climbed 1.2% to 1,308 points. Overall, the benchmark index gained 6.5% over the week, marking its strongest weekly advance since early February.
