Taiwan Equities Hit Another Record High on AI Strength

The TAIEX, Taiwan’s benchmark stock index, rose 413 points, or 1.1%, in early trading on Wednesday to a fresh record high of 37,978, extending a two-session winning streak. The advance was led primarily by technology shares, as investors continued to ride strong upward momentum. Sentiment remained buoyant on optimism about ongoing investment in AI infrastructure.

The broader market also tracked gains in US futures after US President Donald Trump announced an extension of the ceasefire with Iran, a move that came amid lingering uncertainty surrounding US–Iran peace talks.

Contract chipmaker Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), which represents more than 40% of the local market’s total capitalisation, added 0.7%. The company reported a 58% year-on-year surge in net profit for Q1 2026, beating market expectations on the back of robust AI-driven demand. Other notable gainers included Innolux Optoelectronics, Scientech, and AP Memory Technology, each jumping by roughly 10%.
