Canada New Housing Prices Unexpectedly Fall

New housing prices in Canada fell by 0.2% month-on-month in March 2026, following a 0.3% increase in February and contrary to market expectations of a 0.2% rise. The house-only index declined by 0.3%, reversing the 0.3% gain recorded in February, while the land-only component also decreased by 0.3%, after a 0.3% increase in the previous month. On an annual basis, new housing prices were down 2.3%, deepening from a 2.1% year-on-year drop in February.
