Portugal’s consumer confidence index declined to -23.9 in April 2026 from -18.7 in March, marking the deepest level of pessimism in more than two years. The index tracking price developments rose to 57.2 from 50.6, while the index assessing households’ financial situation dropped to -12.7 from -9.1. Both movements are in line with the sharp increase in energy prices following the outbreak of war in the Middle East. Accordingly, expectations for the country’s economic situation over the next 12 months deteriorated to -42.2 from -32.2, and expectations for households’ own financial situation fell to -10.8 from -5.
