U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said that, during the U.S.-China summit, Beijing signaled its desire to keep the Strait of Hormuz open without restrictions, tolls, or military control. In an interview with Bloomberg TV, Greer noted, “It’s really important for China to have the Strait of Hormuz open, no tolling, no military control.” He added that Washington views China’s stance on Iran as “very pragmatic” and believes Beijing does not want to end up “on the wrong side of this.” Greer further stated that both China and the United States seek peace in the region and expressed confidence that Beijing will help limit military support for Iran amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
