Iceland’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 5.8% in April 2026 from 6.3% in March, its lowest level since December 2025. The number of unemployed persons decreased by 1,200 over the month, to 13,500. By gender, the unemployment rate for men declined to 5.9% from 6.2%, while the rate for women eased to 5.7% from 6.4%. The youth unemployment rate, covering job seekers aged 16 to 24, dropped to 12.7% from 17.0% in March, when it had reached a near five-year high. Meanwhile, the employment rate held steady at 75.4%, as the number of employed persons rose by 300 to 220,400. The labor force participation rate edged down to 80.0% from 80.5%. On a non-seasonally adjusted basis, the unemployment rate ticked up to 6.6% in April from 6.4% in March.
