Japan’s large non-manufacturing firms reported a marginal softening in business sentiment in the second quarter of 2026, according to the latest Tankan survey data released on 30 June 2026.
The Tankan Large Non-Manufacturers Diffusion Index edged down to 28 in Q2 2026, from 29 in the first quarter of 2026. While the decline is modest, it signals a slight cooling in confidence among major service-sector companies after previously stronger readings.
Despite the dip, the index remains firmly in positive territory, indicating that overall conditions for large non-manufacturers are still seen as favorable, though with some emerging caution as the year progresses.
