FX.co ★ Baltic Dry Index at Near 1-Week High

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry bulk commodities, rose for a second consecutive session on Wednesday, gaining about 2.4% to reach a near one-week high of 2,562 points. Increases were recorded across all vessel segments.

The capesize index—covering ships that typically carry 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal—jumped 4.1% to 3,692 points, also posting a second straight day of gains. The panamax index, which reflects rates for vessels that usually transport 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, advanced 1.1% to 2,177 points.

Among the smaller vessel categories, the supramax index edged up 0.4% to 1,673 points.
