Mexico’s retail sales grew 1.6% year-on-year in May 2026, slowing from a 4.4% increase in April. Robust gains in online, catalogue, TV, and similar sales channels (12%); healthcare products (7.7%); textiles, accessories, footwear, and clothing (6.3%); household appliances, computers, home décor, and second-hand goods (5.8%); and motor vehicles, spare parts, fuels, and lubricants (3.2%) more than offset declines in groceries, food, beverages, ice, and tobacco (-7.1%), as well as in stationery, recreational goods, and other personal-use items (-2.4%). On a seasonally adjusted basis, retail sales fell 0.6% month-on-month, following a 0.8% increase in April.
