North Macedonia’s retail sales declined by 1.0% year-on-year in June 2026, the first annual drop since September 2025, following a 7.3% increase in May. The downturn was primarily driven by a 4.2% fall in sales of food, beverages, and tobacco, after a 9.1% rise in the previous month. In addition, growth in automotive fuel sales slowed sharply to 2.5% from 14.7%, contributing to a 1.1% decrease in retail trade excluding automotive fuel, compared with a 6.2% increase in May. By contrast, sales of non-food products excluding fuel continued to rise, though at a slightly softer pace of 1.4%, down from 1.6% in the prior month.
