Romania’s Industrial Slump Eases Slightly in June, Still Deep in Negative Territory

Romania’s industrial production remained in contraction in June 2026, but the pace of decline slowed marginally compared with the previous month, according to the latest year-over-year data updated on 13 August 2026. Industrial output fell by 5.2% in June versus the same month a year earlier, after a 5.3% year-over-year drop recorded in May 2026.

While the improvement of just 0.1 percentage points signals only a modest easing in the downturn, it suggests that the sharp industrial contraction seen earlier in the year may be stabilizing. The year-over-year comparison highlights that, despite the slight uptick, Romania’s industrial sector continues to face a challenging environment, with output still significantly below last year’s levels.

Analysts and investors will be watching upcoming monthly releases to see whether June’s marginal improvement marks the start of a gradual recovery or simply a pause in a broader industrial slowdown. For now, the data underscore that industrial activity remains a weak spot in Romania’s economic landscape.
