Hungary Construction Output Decline Eases in June

Hungary’s construction output fell by 1.2% year-on-year in June 2026, a marked improvement from the 10.7% decline recorded in May. The overall downturn was largely due to a 5.5% contraction in building construction, reversing a 4.6% increase in the previous month.

In contrast, output in other types of construction rose by 5.6%, rebounding from a 14.9% slump in May. This improvement was underpinned by a 28.3% surge in civil engineering works, driven mainly by a 49.6% expansion in road and railway construction.

Production in specialised construction — the sector’s largest segment — increased by 0.6% compared with a year earlier.

On a seasonally and working-day adjusted month-on-month basis, however, construction activity declined by 3.9% in June, reversing the gain seen in May. Over the first half of 2026, total construction output was down 0.7% versus the same period a year earlier.
