US energy companies injected 16 billion cubic feet (bcf) of natural gas into storage in the week ending August 14, falling short of market expectations of a 19 bcf build. This compares with an injection of 19 bcf in the same week a year earlier and a five-year (2021–2025) average build of 29 bcf for that period. Total gas in storage rose to 3.169 trillion cubic feet, 0.9% below the level recorded in the same week last year but about 6.2% above the five-year average for the week. In the previous week, ended August 7, inventories increased by 36 bcf.
