FTSE 100 Ends Week Higher

The FTSE 100 rose 0.6% on Friday, extending its winning streak to a sixth consecutive session and securing a weekly gain. Mining stocks advanced on the back of stronger precious and industrial metal prices, with Antofagasta up nearly 6%, Endeavour Mining gaining more than 4%, and Anglo American rising 3%. Fresnillo, Rio Tinto, and Glencore each added around 2%. In the financial sector, HSBC climbed more than 1%. By contrast, oil majors Shell and BP slipped as Brent crude prices edged lower. On the macroeconomic front, the latest data showed UK private sector output growing at its fastest pace since April, driven by a sustained recovery in services that offset a slowdown in manufacturing output growth. However, UK retail sales fell for the first time since April, as very hot weather and fewer discounts discouraged shoppers.
