Japanese Shares Gain for Second Session

The Nikkei 225 Index climbed 0.6% to move above the 66,000 mark on Wednesday, extending the previous session’s advance as declining oil prices helped ease near-term inflation concerns. Japanese equities also followed the positive lead from Wall Street, where long-term US Treasury yields fell sharply, while investors awaited more detailed guidance on the US government’s fiscal reform agenda.

Market participants were also focused on Nvidia’s upcoming earnings release later in the global trading day, seeking further insight into the strength and durability of demand tied to artificial intelligence.

On the corporate front, notable gainers included Advantest (up 2%), SoftBank Group (up 2.7%) and Mitsubishi UFJ (up 1.6%). Terra Drone soared more than 20% after Japan’s Acquisition, Technology & Logistics Agency selected the company to supply the Japan Self-Defense Forces with its Terra B1 interceptor drone under an expedited program designed to bolster counter-uncrewed aircraft capabilities.
