Turkey’s Core Inflation Edges Higher in August, Extending Upward Trend

Turkey’s core inflation, measured by the CPI excluding energy, food, beverages, tobacco and gold, inched higher in August 2026, underscoring persistent price pressures in the economy.

Year-over-year, the core CPI rose 30.1% in August, up from 29.9% in July 2026. Both figures compare prices in each respective month to the same month a year earlier, indicating that underlying inflationary momentum has strengthened slightly as summer progressed.

The data, updated on 3 September 2026, show that while the month-to-month change in the rate was modest, Turkey’s core inflation remains elevated on an annual basis. This measure is closely watched because it strips out some of the most volatile components, offering a clearer view of underlying price dynamics.
