Germany’s HCOB Composite PMI Edges Higher in August, Signalling Slightly Stronger Growth

Germany’s HCOB Composite Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) inched up in August, suggesting a modest strengthening in overall economic activity. The index rose to 51.8, compared with 51.3 previously, remaining above the 50-point threshold that separates expansion from contraction.

Both the previous and current readings relate to August 2026, with the latest data update released on 3 September 2026. The slight uptick indicates that Germany’s private sector maintained its expansionary footing, with a marginal acceleration in growth momentum at the end of the summer period.

While the improvement is incremental, the move higher in the composite PMI can be viewed as a cautiously positive signal for Europe’s largest economy, hinting at a continued, if fragile, recovery trend within the German business landscape.
