Baltic Dry Index Up for 2nd Day

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which measures rates for shipping dry bulk commodities, rose for a second consecutive session on Wednesday, gaining about 1% to reach 3,620 points, with support across all vessel segments.

The capesize index, reflecting rates for vessels that typically carry 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, also advanced for a second day, climbing 1.4% to 6,400 points.

The panamax index, which tracks ships that usually transport about 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, was unchanged at 2,414 points, while the supramax index edged up 0.7% to 1,704 points.
