FX.co ★ Greece Retail Sales Growth Rises in July

Retail sales in Greece rose by 5.2% year-on-year in July 2026, accelerating from a revised 1.8% increase in June. Growth strengthened in both the food sector (5.6% vs 2.4% in June) and the non-food sector excluding automotive fuel (5.6% vs 4.0%).

Among specialized categories, sales increased for supermarkets (5.8% vs 2.2%), food, beverages, and tobacco (4.8% vs 0.2%), and pharmaceutical products and cosmetics (5.9% vs 3.3%). At the same time, sales rebounded in department stores (1.8% vs -2.1%) and in books, stationery, and other goods (3.1% vs -0.6%), while the decline in automotive fuel sales narrowed (-0.4% vs -6.7%).

By contrast, growth slowed in clothing and footwear (2.7% vs 6.8%) and in furniture, electrical goods, and household equipment (8.7% vs 10.9%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, total retail activity rose by 1.4% in July, recovering from a 1.4% decline in the previous month.
