Pakistan Wholesale Inflation at 5-Month High

Pakistan’s wholesale price inflation accelerated to 13.33% year-on-year in September 2026, up from 11.82% in August, registering the highest rate in five months.

The overall increase was driven largely by higher costs for other transportable goods, which surged 34.31% compared with 26.80% in August, and for ores, minerals, electricity, gas, and water, where inflation picked up to 7.28% from 1.87%.

In contrast, price growth eased in several key categories. Inflation slowed for agriculture, forestry, and fishery products (7.29% vs 9.49% in August) and for food, beverages, tobacco, textiles, and leather products as a group (6.56% vs 8.10%). Within this group, inflation for food, beverages, and tobacco decelerated to 8.04% from 10.51%, even as costs rose more rapidly for textiles and apparel (2.46% vs 2.16%) and for leather products (20.64% vs 19.21%).

Inflation also edged down marginally in metal products, machinery, and equipment, slipping to 5.14% from 5.16%.

On a monthly basis, wholesale prices increased by 1.9% in September, following a 2.0% rise in August.
