Australia’s export prices rose 1.4% quarter-on-quarter in Q3 2026, after a 1.1% increase in the previous quarter, marking the fourth consecutive quarterly gain and the fastest pace since Q4 2025. The rise was driven chiefly by a 28.6% surge in natural and manufactured gas prices.
Coal, coke and briquettes prices climbed 4.8%, supported by higher metallurgical coal prices as supply remained tight, with Chinese coal mines subject to safety inspections and stricter production quotas. Cereals and cereal preparations advanced 5.7%, with wheat and barley prices pushed higher by disruptions to production and trade flows in Ukraine and Russia.
These gains were partially offset by a 6.4% decline in metalliferous ores and metal scrap, pressured by stronger export volumes from Australia and Brazil. Prices for non-monetary gold fell 4.8% amid ongoing monetary policy tightening. On an annual basis, export prices were up 6.3% in the year to Q3 2026.
