India’s FX Reserves Ease Slightly to $719.75 Billion, Remaining Near Record Highs

India’s foreign exchange reserves edged down to $719.75 billion, compared with $721.02 billion previously, according to data updated on 30 October 2026. The marginal decline suggests the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) may have continued to smooth currency volatility while maintaining reserves close to their peak levels.

Despite the slight dip, the overall stockpile remains substantial, underpinning India’s external stability and its ability to manage potential balance-of-payments pressures. Market participants typically view this scale of reserves as a comfortable buffer against global financial shocks and periods of heightened capital outflows.

The near-record reserve position also offers policymakers room to maneuver on exchange rate management and import cover, particularly for critical commodities such as energy, even as global financial conditions remain fluid.
