France’s seasonally adjusted current account deficit widened to €2.7 billion in September 2026, up from a downwardly revised €1.4 billion in August. The goods trade deficit increased to €6.2 billion from €5.1 billion, driven by a larger energy deficit, which rose to €4.2 billion from €3.6 billion, and a wider non‑energy goods deficit, which expanded to €2 billion from €1.5 billion. At the same time, the primary income surplus narrowed to €3.7 billion from €4.1 billion. The services surplus was unchanged at €4.9 billion, while the secondary income deficit remained stable at €5.2 billion. Over the first nine months of 2026, France’s current account surplus narrowed to €13.7 billion, compared with €15.8 billion in the same period of 2025.
