Donald Trump denies negotiating with Iran and declares Strait of Hormuz open

US President Donald Trump said Washington is not holding and does not plan to hold any negotiations or discussions with Tehran, and that the US naval blockade of Iranian ports remains in effect. The White House chief also stressed that the strategic Strait of Hormuz — through which a fifth of global oil and LNG flows passed before the conflict — is "open and functioning," and that all naval mines laid there have been neutralized or detonated.

Tehran rejected Washington’s claims of dialogue and normalization of shipping. Parliament speaker and chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said the waterway will remain closed until the US fully meets the obligations of the expired memorandum. Iran demands the lifting of the blockade, the unfreezing of financial assets, the removal of oil sanctions, and a complete halt to US military operations. Amid the tough rhetoric and Iran’s shift to an offensive posture, navigation in the region is effectively disabled. The British agency UKMTO reported that a commercial tanker had been struck by an unidentified projectile.

The collapse of diplomatic efforts has triggered a new wave of turbulence in global markets. Brent crude topped $90 per barrel, once again raising the risk of a surge in energy‑driven inflation and the Federal Reserve’s hawkish policy. The yield on 30‑year US government bonds jumped to a more‑than‑two‑decade high, and Deutsche Bank analysts noted growing investor pessimism about the prospects for a quick restoration of shipments through the Persian Gulf.
