Mercedes To Install EV Chargers At 100 Starbucks Stores

Starbucks Corp. has unveiled a strategic partnership with Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging, a subsidiary of the German automotive giant Mercedes-Benz Group AG, aimed at electrifying over 100 Starbucks locations across the United States.

As part of this agreement, Mercedes' high-power electric vehicle (EV) chargers will be installed at selected outlets along a 1,400-mile stretch of Interstate 5, extending from Washington to California. This corridor is a vital travel route along the west coast. During the initial phase of the project, chargers will be strategically placed in both core urban centers and underserved areas known as charging deserts.

The Starbucks locations along the I-5 corridor will be outfitted with the Alpitronic Hypercharger 400, which features NACS cables and the capacity to support a wide range of vehicle voltages.

The company also plans to assess additional locations, with potential expansions into East Coast markets.

This latest initiative, aligning with Starbucks’ environmental commitment to give back more than it takes, aims to broaden its EV charging network. Currently, Starbucks provides EV charging facilities at over 1,000 licensed and company-operated stores across the U.S., often in proximity to existing charging infrastructure.

Andrew Cornelia, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging, commented, "The collaboration between two leading brands like Mercedes-Benz and Starbucks will enhance the charging experience for all EV drivers. We foresee a future where charging your vehicle is as effortless as enjoying your favorite Starbucks coffee."
