Baltic Dry Index Falls for 5th Day, Still Books Monthly Gain

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk sea freight index, which monitors rates for the transportation of dry commodities, experienced a decline for the fifth consecutive session on Monday, dropping by 4 points to reach its lowest level since March 12, settling at 1,598 points. The capesize index, catering to 150,000-ton shipments such as iron ore and coal, fell for a fourth consecutive session, losing 7 points to hit its lowest mark since March 7, now at 2,465 points. Additionally, the supramax index decreased by 7 points, reaching 988 points. In contrast, the panamax index, typically associated with vessels that carry 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, saw an increase of 4 points, reaching 1,501 points. Notably, the benchmark index demonstrated a significant 30% gain in March.
